Bio: Daniel Bagnall is a PhD student and instructor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University at Buffalo. His overall research interests center around the association between social position and health outcomes, as well as the nature of neighborhood effects on health. Daniel is mainly interested in studying how individuals come to be unhealthy and what affects their health behaviors and perspectives on healthcare. His master’s project, titled “The Difference You Feel: A Qualitative Exploration and Analysis of African American Experiences in Healthcare,” delves in to local Buffalo residents’ perspectives on healthcare and how discrimination, as well as medical knowledge and resource availability, help to define how individuals view their health, healthcare professionals, and the healthcare institution.
