She is an urban sociologist whose research focuses primarily on education, social inequality, and neighborhood change. Dr. Kimelberg’s recent projects include analyses of how parents make schooling decisions for their children; the relationships between neighborhood dynamics and school dynamics; the roles that social and cultural capital play in students’ educational experiences; and how social class shapes individuals’ perceptions of and experiences with museums and similar community institutions.
