Curator, educator, artist, and collector Gerald C. Mead received an honorary doctor of fine arts degree in appreciation and recognition of his support of the university and its Castellani Art Museum.
UB Department of Art alumnus Gerald Mead (MFA 2008) was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Niagara University. The degree was conferred during the University's virtual Commencement ceremony on July 26, 2020.
Gerald Mead is an artist, collector, curator and educator based in Buffalo, NY. He is and has been a long time participant and supporter of the Buffalo arts scene. Over the years he has amassed an amazing collection of artworks with a buffalo connection, like works by Cindy Sherman and Robert Longo along with other buffalo artists just starting out in their careers. His patronage and enthusiasm for up-and-coming Buffalo artists has often put him at the center of Buffalo's dynamic arts scene. Along with these activities he has been a member of several prestigious Buffalo art institution's board of directors, bringing his knowledge and passion, helping to broaden the culture scene of western NY.
