BIOMES solo exhibition by BFA Alum, explores the microscopic through art

2023 BFA in Studio Art Alumnus, Emma Stanton, presents a solo exhibition of artwork at the Crucible Art Collective, on Buffalo's Westside.

About "BIOMES"

Through the looking glass of a microscope, what might you find? Emma Stanton ponders this in her exhibition, BIOMES, a series of colorful paintings exploring the microscopic ecosystems that exist within and around us. The abstract paintings draw inspiration from a typically clinical subject, offering a playful perspective on the smallest components of our lives. The act of making is inherent to this series of paintings, which is demonstrated through blowing bubbles onto the surfaces to mimic cell clusters. These transparent layers deepen the color field, exploring color relationships and the nature of the mediums used. The reference to real life cell structures grounds the more abstract elements of the paintings, resulting in a playful reality imagining what one might find under a microscope.

BIOMES is open through January 31st, 2026 at the Crucible Art Collective, with a closing reception on January 31st from 2pm - 4pm.

The Crucible Art Collective is open Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11am - 6pm.
