Green Day’s AMERICAN IDIOT
features music by Green Day, lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong and book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer. The show premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009 before opening on Broadway in April 2010. In 2010, AMERICAN IDIOT won two Tony Awards and the Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. Since then, the show has continued to play worldwide.

AMERICAN IDIOT
is a gripping and gritty coming of age story told in the form of a dynamic rock opera. AMERICAN IDIOT follows the story three childhood friends on a search for purpose in a post 9/11 world. From the suburbs to the city, the friends navigate their early twenties relying on the punk rock music of Green Day to express their experiences.

This UB production, directed and choreographed by guest artist, Gary John LaRosa, will feature a live onstage band and include newly designed and executed sets, lights, and costumes. Nathan R. Matthews, UB Director of Music Theatre, will music direct the production. The performance is part of the 2017-2018 UB Department of Theatre & Dance season of Innovation.
