The Mid-American Conference announced the Distinguished Scholar Athletes for the 2020-21 academic season and, from the UB Department of Biological Sciences, three student-athletes made the list: Alex McNulty; Julia Bosell; and Pia Schwartz.
Alex McNulty is a double major is biology for pre-veterinary science and physics, is on the 2021 UB Bulls Football Roster.
Originally a walk-on kicker who worked his way into the lineup late in the 2018 season and has since developed into an All-MAC kicker... also throws javelin on the UB track & field team.
Sophomore (2020): Started seven games… named All-MAC Third Team… named Academic All-MAC... was a perfect 42-of-42 on point after attempts… his 42 made extra points were the fourth most in school history for a single season… was 1-for-4 on field goal attempts… made a 23-yarder against Marshall in the Camellia Bowl.
Redshirt-Freshman (2019): made 10-of-15 field goal attempts on the season… made 40-of-42 extra point attempts… named Academic All-MAC… made a 40-yard field goal and all four extra point attempts against Robert Morris (8/29).
Julia Boswell is on the 2021-22 UB Bulls Swimming and Diving Roster.
As a Junior (2020-21): Earned season-best times in the 500 freestyle (4:58.02), 1,650 freestyle (17:08.20), and 400 IM (4:24.67) at the MAC Championships...Was part of the 200 freestyle relay team that earned a time of 1:40.67 at Duquesne...Finished the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:45.73 against Akron...Earned Academic All-MAC Honors.
As a Sophomore (2019-20): Won the 1000 freestyle against Ball State in a time of 10:31.59…Finished the 1650 freestyle at the Ohio State Invite in 17:22.07…Completed the 400 IM in 4:26.20 at the Ohio State Invite.
As a Freshman (2018-19): Completed the 1,650 freestyle in 16:59.70 at the MAC Championships…Claimed second place in the 500 freestyle in 5:06.06 against Duques.
Pia Schwarz is on the 2021-22 Women's Tennis Roster.
2019-20: Was having a breakout season, going 17-3 in singles action before the year was halted due to COVID-19…was 10-1 at first singles as she was twice named the MAC Singles Player of the Week…added a 10-10 record in doubles action.
2018-19: Was 19-9 as a freshman, earning All-MAC Second Team honors…played most of the year at third singles going 12-4, while also spending time and second and fourth singles…went 13-12 in doubles spending most of the season at second doubles.
Prior to UB: Had an outstanding junior’s career, competing in a number of German Championships…was runner up at Baden Tennis Association’s Championship and has won seven regional titles in juniors and seniors.
