General awards and scholarships

  • Annual essay competition for students hosted by ASHA
  • Open to undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and entry-level graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
  • Applications due typically in February
  • $1000 and ASHA Convention registration (first place), $750 (second place), and $500 (third place), as well as a paid membership to NSSHLA for one year for all winners
  • Find out more about the Student Ethics Essay Award

  • Expand your knowledge of research in audiology and/or hearing by attending the ASHA Annual Convention
  • Open to AuD, AuD/PhD, PhD, and postdoctoral fellows in an audiology, tinnitus, balance, or hearing science program
  • $500 to offset costs of travel and complimentary registration to the ASHA Convention
  • Applications typically due in May

  • Foster your research career by attending the ASHA Annual Convention
  • Open to mentor-protege pairs
    • Proteges: MA, clinical doctorate, PhD, and postdoctoral fellows
    • Mentor: experience investigator affiliated with an academic or clinical research environment, and must hold a research doctoral degree
  • $1000 travel stipend ($750 to protege and $250 to mentor) and complimentary registration to the ASHA Convention
  • Applications typically due in July

  • Cultivating student interest in pursuing a research doctorate (PhD) in communication sciences and disorders and a career as a faculty-researcher
    • Priority areas to students pursuing interests in clinical practice research, diversity/equity/inclusion, implementation science, and/or interprofessional education and practice. 
  • Open to undergraduate juniors and seniors, post-baccalaureate students, entry-level first-year MA students, and entry-level first- or second-year AuD students
  • $1000 award to pursue mentored teaching and research activities
  • Applications typically due in April

  • Scholarship given based on leadership, community involvement, clinical experience, and academic performance
  • Open to graduate students in speech-language pathology or audiology
  • $1000
  • Application typically due in April

  • Receive educational support for graduate school expenses, including tuition, books, school-related expenses, and living expenses
  • Includes general scholarships, as well as endowed scholarships for international students, minority students, NSSLHA students

  • Receive support to pursue a teacher-investigator career in an academic environment at the university/college level in the United States
  • Open to students in a research doctoral program (PhD or equivalent) in communication sciences and disorders

Awards and scholarships for Underrepresented Minority Students

  • Scholarships given to outstanding Native American and Alaska Native graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in health care fields and who demonstrate a commitment to Native health care
  • Open to Native American and Alaska Native graduate students who have completed at least one semester of graduate-level coursework
  • $25,000
  • Applications typically due in May

  • Cultivating student interest in pursuing a research doctorate (PhD) in communication sciences and disorders and a career as a faculty-researcher
    • Priority areas to students pursuing interests in clinical practice research, diversity/equity/inclusion, implementation science, and/or interprofessional education and practice. 
  • Open to undergraduate juniors and seniors, post-baccalaureate students, entry-level first-year MA students, and entry-level first- or second-year AuD students

  • Participate in an online mentoring program where mentees and mentors communicate to address short- and long-term goals
  • Open to all students pursuing careers in audiology and speech-language pathology
  • Enrollment typically ends in February

  • Mentoring in obtaining and succeeding in faculty-researcher positions in Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Open to PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty

Mentoring award programs for Underrepresented Minority Students

  • A leadership development program with the purpose of
    • recruiting and retaining racial/ethnic minorities underrepresented in the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology
    • providing focused educational programming and activities to build and enhance leadership skills
    • providing an understanding of how ASHA works
    • providing an opportunity to interact with leaders in the field
  • Open to undergraduate seniors, MA, AuD, and clinical or research doctorate students
  • Participate in a virtual cohort experience and receive complimentary registration to ASHA Convention

  • Receive mentorship and support for early career professionals and students 
  • Open to students of color majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders or recent MA graduates
  • Work with a mentor of color to establish goals over a one-year program
