  • Marino receives Plesur award for teaching

    Mark R. Marino, an instructor in the Department of Mathematics and Undergraduate Learning Center in the College of Arts and Sciences, is one of three UB faculty members to receive the 2019 Milton Plesur Excellence in Teaching Award from the undergraduate Student Association. The award, which recognizes their commitment to students and the quality of their teaching, is named for Plesur, a professor in the Department of History who died in 1987.
  • Autschbach named UB Distinguished Professor

    Jochen Autschbach, Larkin Professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been named a UB Distinguished Professor. The designation recognizes full professors who have achieved true distinction and are leaders in their fields.
  • Vanouse wins Golden Nica
    1/10/20
    The Ars Electronica Festival has named Paul Vanouse, a professor in the Department of Art, as a 2019 Golden Nicas winner. The Prix Ars Electronica is the oldest award in the field of electronic, interactive art and computer animation and has been bestowed since 1987.
  • Culleton, Schmid receive Meyerson mentoring awards

    College of Arts and Sciences faculty members Colleen Culleton and David Schmid have been named recipients for the 2019 President Emeritus and Mrs. Meyerson Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching and Mentoring, UB’s highest honor given for undergraduate mentoring.
  • Three faculty, staff receive SUNY Chancellor's Awards

    Two faculty members and one staff member from the College of Arts and Sciences have been named recipients of the 2019 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence.
  • Reitzenstein named 2019 OCAD University Faculty of Art Distinguished Alumnus

    The Ontario College of Art and Design University named UB Department of History Associate Professor Reinhard Reitzenstein as the OCAD University Faculty of Art Distinguished Alumnus 2019. Recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by a jury of alumni, faculty and staff. Award recipients demonstrate excellence in a diverse range of fields and activities, whether at home or abroad.
  • Mbah recognized as 2019 ACLS Fellow

    Department of History Assistant Professor Ndubueze L. Mbah was recognized as a 2019 American Council of Learned Societies Centennial Fellow in the Dynamics of Place for their project, "Rebellious Migrants: Forging Cosmopolitan Identity and Postcolonial Spaces in the Bight of Biafra, 1840-1960."
  • Richard named SUNY Distinguished Professor
    4/19/19
    Department of Chemistry faculty member John Richard was named a SUNY Distinguished Professor, the highest faculty rank in the SUNY system, by the SUNY Board of Trustees at its meeting on March 20. The rank of distinguished professor is an order above full professorship and has three co-equal designations: distinguished professor, distinguished service professor and distinguished teaching professor.
  • New book details how railroad porters helped lead civil rights efforts in U.S., Canada

    Faculty member Cecil Foster says that while his new book, “They Call Me George: The Untold Story of the Black Train Porters and the Birth of Modern Canada,” tells a story that took place in Canada, it is still part of the American narrative.
  • Professor Andreas Daum and Hans-Christian Pape, president of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
    Daum receives Humboldt Research Prize

    Department of History professor Andreas Daum, PhD, has been awarded the Humboldt Research Prize by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in recognition of his achievements and impact on historical scholarship.
  • Frakes awarded Fenia and Yaakov Leviant Memorial Prize in Yiddish Studies
    1/10/20
    The UB Department of English's Jerold Frakes, SUNY Distinguished Professor, has been awarded the Fenia and Yaakov Leviant Memorial Prize in Yiddish Studies for his book “Early Yiddish Epic” from the Modern Language Association of America (MLA). This prize is awarded to an outstanding translation of a Yiddish literary work.
