UB Contemporary Ensemble.

The University at Buffalo's Contemporary Ensemble is dedicated to the preparation and performance of contemporary music. This ensemble not only expands the performance skills of its members but also serves as a valuable resource for the History, Composition and Theory Departments.

Join the Contemporary Ensemble

The UB Contemporary Ensemble offers students a unique opportunity to explore the cutting edge of music and collaborate with faculty and peers on innovative projects.

Rehearsals and performances

Rehearsals are scheduled each semester after the ensemble is selected.

Performances:

The ensemble presents concerts featuring works by composers such as Cage, Carter, Feldman, Andriessen, Rzewski and Stockhausen.

Student Projects:

Students are encouraged to propose projects for the ensemble, such as:

  • Music History and Theory Students: Use live performance to illustrate analyses.
  • Composition Students: Write works to be read and performed by the ensemble, with opportunities for feedback during rehearsals.

Auditions

Auditions are required to join the UB Contemporary Ensemble.

Registration

UB students interested in joining the Contemporary Ensemble must register for one of the following courses:

  • Undergraduate: MUS 447 (2 credits)
  • Graduate: MUS 547 (2 credits)
