The University at Buffalo’s Open! String Ensemble is a one-of-a-kind musical group that embraces collaboration and creativity, welcoming string players of all skill levels and instruments, including acoustic and electric strings and world instruments like santur and shamisen. Guided by the interests and abilities of its members, this ensemble explores diverse musical styles and fosters an inclusive, innovative environment.
The UB Open! String Ensemble offers students a unique opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of musicians, explore innovative repertoire, and compose or arrange original works for performance.
Rehearsals are scheduled once a week for 90 minutes. The day and time are determined based on member availability, and prospective members are encouraged to email their schedules to Prof. Golove to finalize the rehearsal schedule.

No formal audition is required to join the UB Open! String Ensemble. However, new members will meet with Prof. Jonathan Golove during the first week of classes to discuss:
