Symphony Orchestra Auditions
Interested in playing with the orchestra? Whether you’re a music major or not, all UB students are welcome to audition!

Audition Dates
Auditions for the year will take place on the following dates:
- Tuesday, August 26
- Thursday, August 28
- Saturday, August 30
All musicians must prepare:
- Required excerpts (see your instrument’s folder below)
- Two two-octave scales (or three octave scales if you are a string player)
Additional excerpt instructions for specific instruments:
Please download and prepare all excerpts in your designated instrument:
Only prepare the Shostakovich excerpt (located in the PDF below) if you're interested in one of the top three chairs.
- Prepare the Vaughan Williams excerpt
- Choose 2 High Horn and 2 Low Horn excerpts to prepare
Only prepare the Prokofiev and Ravel excerpts (located in the PDF below) if you're interested in the first stand
Only prepare the Shostakovich excerpts if you're interested in:
- Top three 1st violin chairs
- Top two 2nd violin chairs

Important Dates
- Audition Results: Posted on Saturday, Aug. 30, outside of B1 Slee Hall and 304 Baird Hall.
- First Rehearsal: Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6:30 p.m. on Slee Stage.
