Symphony Orchestra Auditions
Interested in playing with the orchestra? Whether you’re a music major or not, all UB students are welcome to audition!

Audition Dates
- Saturday, August 22
- Sunday, August 23
- Tuesday, August 25
All musicians must prepare:
- Required excerpts (see your instrument’s folder below)
- Two two-octave scales (or three octave scales if you are a string player)
Musicians will also need to sight-read the day of the audition.
Specific Instrument Excerpts:
Please download and prepare all excerpts in your designated instrument:
Only prepare the Shostakovich excerpt in addition to the others (located in the PDF below) if you want to be considered for the first three (3) chairs.
- Choose 2 High Horn and 2 Low Horn excerpts to prepare
Only prepare the excerpts Prokofiev and Ravel in addition to the others (located in the PDF below) if you wish to be considered for the first three (3) chairs in the section.
FYI: The squiggle line in the Nielsen Mvmt 3 excerpt means to copy the first half of the bar.
Only prepare the Shostakovich excerpts in addition to the others, if you're interested in:
- First three 1st violin chairs
- First three 2nd violin chairs
