Stephen Guerra’s new album featured by All About Jazz
Stephen Guerra of the UB Department of Music is featured in "All About Jazz" for his new album, Um Violão na Cidade Maravilhosa. The recording brings together Guerra’s original compositions with choro, samba and jazz influences shaped by his collaborations with musicians in Brazil and beyond.
The review highlights Guerra’s growing connection to the international choro community, including original works that are now circulating among musicians in Rio de Janeiro and Japan. It also points to the album’s blend of Brazilian musical traditions with Guerra’s own voice as a guitarist, composer and educator.
Um Violão na Cidade Maravilhosa is Guerra’s second album made entirely of his own compositions. The recording features several longtime collaborators and reflects the exchange of ideas, styles and traditions that continues to shape his work.
