Renowned violinist Melissa White has been named the new artistic director of Clarion Concerts, succeeding artistic director emerita Eugenia Zukerman. Established in 1957, Clarion Concerts brings world-class chamber music to New York’s Hudson Valley and is known for its commitment to commissioning new works by contemporary and Black composers, showcasing Black musicians, and providing educational programs for young audiences.

In addition to her new role, White serves on the music artist faculty at NYU Steinhardt and is a professor of music at the University at Buffalo. She is also a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Harlem Quartet and has performed as a soloist with major ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, and Chicago Sinfonietta.

White called her appointment “an honor,” sharing, “I’m inspired to carry forward Clarion’s tradition of excellence while welcoming new voices, new ideas, and a spirit of inclusivity into our programming. My mission is to honor the past, celebrate the present, and shape a future where music uplifts, connects, and reflects the vibrant diversity of the world around us.”

Clarion Concerts also announced new leadership on its board of trustees, electing DeWayne A. Powell and Peter K. Duda as co-presidents.
