Professor Jon Nelson has released a new album, "The Zappa House Concert," featuring a historic performance by the Meridian Arts Ensemble. The recording captures a private 1996 concert held at Frank Zappa’s home in Los Angeles.
Nelson performs alongside fellow brass musicians and percussion in a program that includes arrangements of Zappa’s work such as "Big Swifty," "T’Mershi Duween" and "Dupree’s Paradise." The performance reflects the ensemble’s long engagement with Zappa’s music and its approach to blending chamber music with jazz and experimental styles.
Originally connected through collaborations in the early 1990s, the ensemble’s work with Zappa marked a key moment in its development. This release offers a rare look at that history and the group’s evolving sound.
The "Zappa House Concert" is available in digital and physical formats.
