Season Highlights

Expanded Concert Season
We are excited to be offering a number of additional concerts this season to complement our Slee Visiting Artist Series and Slee Beethoven Quartet Cycle. Special guest artists include the Sphinx Virtuosi, Alexander Quartet and Harlem Quartet. As part of our annual collaboration with The Buffalo Chamber Music Society, we will be presenting a pair of concerts by the Jerusalem Quartet as well as a solo recital by the Concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Nikki Chooi, the Meridian Arts Ensemble and the return of the Horszowski Trio to close out the series in April.

Sphinx Virtuosi to Open Visiting Artist Season on October 15th
The Sphinx Virtuosi are the nation’s most dynamic, exhilarating professional chamber orchestra, dedicated to increasing racial and ethnic diversity in classical music. Comprised of eighteen of the nation’s top Black and Latino classical soloists, the Virtuosi are primarily alumni of the internationally renowned Sphinx Competition, and its members work together as cultural ambassadors reaching new audiences.

Slee Beethoven String Quartet Cycle with the Parker Quartet
The Parker Quartet returns to UB to perform the entire Slee Beethoven String Quartet Cycle in March of 2023. This will be the second time that the famed Slee Cycle will be offered in a condensed fashion in recent years, taking place over one week. What a thrilling experience for performers and audience members alike.

Shostakovich String Quartet Cycle with the Alexander Quartet
Building upon the legacy of our Slee Beethoven Cycle, for the first time this season, we are pleased to offer an additional cycle of string quartets by one of the 20th century’s most important composers. The Alexander Quartet returns to UB for five concerts in April featuring the complete string quartets of Dmitri Shostakovich.

Center for 21st Century Music Series
The Center for 21st Century Music opens its season with a concert devoted to the music of Lukas Foss in commemoration of his centenary year. Additional highlights include Slee Sinfonietta performances, and return visits by Ensemble Court-Circuit and The Switch~ Ensemble, as well as the annual June in Buffalo Festival.

Brown Bag Concerts
Informal, 45-minute concert experiences where patrons are invited to bring and enjoy a brown bag lunch. The programs will feature performances by students and faculty from the UB Music Department, and will be announced from the stage. The concerts will take place on the first Tuesdays of October, November, March and April. They are free and open to the public
