Department of Music Awarded Funding for New Experimental Intermedia Space

The Department of Music has received $178,135 from UB’s Research and Economic Development Equipment Program to create a cutting-edge experimental intermedia space in B1 Slee Hall.

Set to be completed by fall 2025, the space will feature an 18-channel immersive Meyer audio sound system and Nadia processor to support real-time sound spatialization and advanced multi-channel audio presentation. These technologies will provide powerful tools for composers, performers and sound artists working at the intersection of music, technology and performance.

The room will also be equipped with multiple short-throw laser projectors and screens, making it an ideal hub for interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty and students from the Department of Media Study and other research areas across campus.

This new facility will enhance UB’s ability to support experimental work in sound and visual media, further positioning the university as a leader in innovative arts research.
