The Department of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of conductor and baritone Jaman E. Dunn as Assistant Professor of Practice.
Dunn was most recently the assistant conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. They also conduct the Buffalo Master Chorale and serve as interim choirmaster at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Buffalo. They are founder and artistic director of Polaris Orchestra, which provides high quality music performance as a vehicle for social change.
In this new position, Dunn will direct the UB Symphony Orchestra, provide studio voice instruction and lead courses in conducting and opera performance. This past May, they were conductor and guest vocalist at UB’s Slee Hall for a concert of 20th-century music and gospel. Also, during the 2022-23 academic year, Dunn served as visiting faculty at the Fredonia School of Music and directed the school’s orchestra in several programs throughout the year.
Dunn holds a Masters in Music in orchestral conducting from Boston Conservatory and has appeared in recent seasons as bass and baritone soloist in Händel’s “Messiah” and Mendelsohn’s “Elijah”, with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Quorum Boston and at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Buffalo.
