Samiha Islam, a rising junior majoring in health and human services and statistics, has been named a “Key into Public Service Scholar” by the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s most prestigious academic honor society.

UB geography doctoral student Naiima Khahaifa is one of 36 students in the U.S. to win the Ford Dissertation Fellowship, an award that provides support for doctoral students completing and defending their dissertation.

Today we stand with our community still reeling, in shock and in profound grief over the shooting in Buffalo on Saturday. Knowing that racially motivated mass shootings are on the rise in this country does little to prepare us for how to grapple with their impact in the place that we all call home.

84 UB students were recently inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, which is widely considered the highest general academic honor an American undergraduate can receive.

This spring, more than 6,000 UB students received their degrees in commencement ceremonies across the campus, the last taking place on Sunday. These graduates’ plans reflect the diversity of their values, as well as their determination to make change in areas they care most about.

At only 18, Monique Kapur-Mauleon will graduate from UB this weekend with her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, ready to take on dental school.

As College of Arts and Sciences students walked across stage to formalize their graduation, they also donned newly received recognitions and awards of the highest honors. The College’s undergraduate commencement ceremony took place on Sunday, May 22 in UB’s Alumni Arena.
