Samiha Islam ’24 wins SUNY Chancellor’s Award

Congratulations to Samiha Islam – one of fifteen UB students named a recipient of the 2024 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence! 

Samiha, of Rochester NY, graduates with a BA in health and human services and BA in statistics. She is recognized nationally as a Harry S. Truman Scholar and a Public Policy and International Affairs fellow. Samiha has conducted workshops on interfaith and multiracial coalition-building for thousands across Western New York and published research on abolition-based approaches to preventing hate crimes as a Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress fellow. Samiha has also served as a diversity advocate in UB’s Intercultural and Diversity Center, leading campus dialogues on privilege, politics, and social justice.
