Ayesha Datta is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University at Buffalo. Her research interests lie in understanding the convergences among ethnicity, gender, class, immigration and labour because of their emphasis on identity and social relations and how they influence an individual’s access to resources, particularly employment and livelihood opportunities. Her past work focused mainly on the lack of organizations in the informal sectors of work present in India and how it affects workers’ rights to decent wages, a safety net and healthy working conditions.
