Gender, Sexuality, Masculinity, Childhood, Media, Qualitative Methods
Chandler Fairbanks is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University at Buffalo. He is interested in the intersections of childhood, masculinity, sexuality, and the media. More specifically, he aims to investigate how these institutions influence gender performance in young men. Chandler is motivated by his experiences as a film major and media’s growing impact in the field of sociology. As an undergraduate, Chandler studied media’s representation of the participants of the 2017 Women’s March in Washington D.C., utilizing content analysis to compare the signs and speeches given at the march to news articles covering the protest.
