If you read UBNow emails, then you’ve already heard about our March 2023 Spotlight Student, Alexis Harrell.  Alexis was recently awarded a super-competitive Marshall scholarship to do graduate work in the U.K.  She will pursue an MSc in Narrative Futures: Art, Data, Society at the University of Edinburgh, followed by an MSc in Psychology of the Arts, Neuroaesthetics, and Creativity at Goldsmiths, University of London.

What UBNow didn’t tell you, however, is that Alexis was drawn to the Sociology major for its offerings on race and the criminal justice system, and while at UB has also explored interactions between media/film and social justice issues.  She plans to combine her photography practice with racial justice research.  Alexis writes, “I am glad I have a background in sociology that prepares me to conduct this research and consider social interactions with artwork/the camera.”
