How To Use UB Box

UB students, faculty and staff can use UBbox to store, share and access academic and university-related documents from anywhere, with people inside and outside of UB.

It is a conveneit way to back up and transport files among differnt lab computers, your personal computer and mobile devices.

How To Use UB Box

  1. Go to https://buffalo.box.com
  2. Click Continue if asked if you are “Part of University at Buffalo”
  3. Enter your UBITName in the first (username) field
  4. Enter your UBITName password in the Password field
  5. Click Sign In

Note: in some instances, especially when using applications instead of a web browser, the Box login will show the default login screen, rather than the UB login screen. If that is the case, you should see an option to login using “Single Sign On (SSO)

Updating Your UBbox Profile

  1. Log into UBbox
  2. In the upper right hand corner, click your initials
  3. From the dropdown menu, select View Profile
  4. On the next screen, select Edit Information
  5. Edit as necessary, and select Save

Account Settings>Sharing

  1. Log into UBbox
  2. In the upper right hand corner, click your initials
  3. From the dropdown menu, select Account Settings
  4. The Sharing tab allows you to set defaults on how files and folders are shared, and how you receive email notifications for various activities.
  5. Edit as necessary, and select Save

Moving Your Files into UBbox

Method 1: Drag-and-Drop to UBbox Using a Browser

To upload one or more files:

  • With both your Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) and web browser windows visible, select and drag files onto the UBbox file list. The area will turn gray, and an upload progress bar will appear.

To upload entire folders:

  1. In your browser, click the blue Upload button and click Select Folders
  2. A window asking “Do you want to run this application?” will appear. Click Run, or install Java updates if necessary
  3. The Folder Uploader – Fetchbox window appears.
  4. Click Add Files
  5. Navigate to the folder you want to upload and select it. Repeat this step as necessary.
  6. Click Upload. An Upload progress bar will appear.

Method 2: Install Box Sync OR Box Drive

  1. Install Box Sync on Your Computer. (Recommended) Box Sync stores local copies of your files on your computer, and syncs copies to the UBbox cloud.
  2. OR, Install Box Drive on Your Computer. Do not install both Box Sync and Box Drive together. Box Drive stores only one copy of your data in the UBbox cloud, freeing up your hard drive space. Files will not be available if you are offline
  3. Drag and Drop Your Files to Your Box Sync or Box Drive Folder. Box Sync will automatically upload them to UBbox.

UBbox for Smartphones and Tablets

  • The Box app is available for iOS and Android.
  • Be sure to log in using the Single Sign On (SSO) option.
  • Selected files can be made available offline, or Favorited for quick access.
