The College of Arts and Sciences names 2025 Outstanding Seniors from each academic department.
Sage Scholz
Sage Scholz of Tonawanda, N.Y., graduates summa cum laude with a bachelor of fine arts degree with a concentration in photography. Sage's work is rooted in portraiture, centering on queer and underground spaces, capturing personal moments with friends and collaborators. In addition to these community works, Sage uses self-portraiture to explore the complexity of gender. By abstracting their body, they examine being raised in traditional gender roles and their development to both separate from femininity and accept certain aspects of it within their transgender identity.
Sage was the 2025 recipient of one of the Department of Art's annual scholarships, the "William E. Townsend Photography Scholarship Fund".
Established in 1999 by William E. Townsend, BA '50, this scholarship is awarded to worthy students pursuing their studies in the Photography Program in the Department of Art. Must complete the FAFSA since financial need may be considered.
Sage's BFA Senior Thesis project is showcased in the Department galleries, in the group exhibition Chrysalis, on view April 22 - May 6, 2025.
