The Asian Studies Program is excited to welcome postdoctoral scholar, Stephanie Choi, who is affiliated with the UB Asia Research Institute. This semester, Dr. Choi will teach a course for the Asian Studies Program, titled “East Asian Popular Music Cultures.”
Dr. Choi earned her PhD in 2020 in ethnomusicology from the University of California-Santa Barbara, where her dissertation focused on gender, labor, and the commodification of intimacy in K-pop. Most recently, she has been teaching courses at NYU on the soundscape of East Asian popular music cultures and Korean culture and society through K-pop.
