We invite you to apply to our graduate degree program of study.

The completed application includes:

  • Applicant Information Form.
  • Personal Statement (can adapt one used for MD, DDS, or other terminal programs).
  • Pre-health committee letter packets acceptable so long as they contain the individual letters. Contact SMP Director for questions and assistance.
  • Resume or CV.
  • Three letters of recommendation, with two preferred to come from faculty instructors.
  • GRE, MCAT, DAT, or other standardized test scores may be submitted to demonstrate preparation, but are not required.
  • Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate programs attended.
  • Additional documentation required by UB for international applicants.
  • $ 75 Application Fee (Waivers available for qualified applicants).

Application deadlines
Applicants can choose to enter the SMP in the fall or spring semester. Both cycles operate on rolling admissions, with a hard deadline of December 31 for spring admission, and July 31 for fall admission. The application will not be read until all application materials are submitted.

Using MD/DDS Application materials:
Applicants may use pre-health committee letter packets in lieu of individual letters, and may reuse other materials from terminal health program applications. Applicants are encouraged to include details about their reasons for applying to the program in their personal statements, however they may use the statements they wrote for MD/DDS/PA applications.

Application details
There is no GPA requirement to apply, but applicants should be prepared to demonstrate that they can maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in graduate school coursework, as this is required for graduation. This can be done by explaining underperformance or personal situations on the personal statement, through strong letters of recommendation, and by doing well in science coursework recently.

Once the application is completed and received, the MA committee will review the application and the applicant will receive a decision within a few weeks. Applications are typically reviewed in batches every two weeks. If admitted, applicants are given two weeks to accept the offer.
