  • The 2023 U.S. Crystal Growing Competition

    The contest challenges participants to grow the biggest, most beautiful crystals they can with aluminum potassium sulfate (alum), a nontoxic chemical used in water purification. There is also a prize category for “coolest crystal.” The competition is an outreach activity designed to provide K-12 grade students and teachers a fun, hands-on STEM experience. Jason Benedict, Associate Professor, is also the founder of the contest.   • Jochen Autschbach named SUNY Distinguished Professor

    Prof. Jochen Autschbach has been promoted to the rank of SUNY Distinguished Professor. The SUNY Distinguished Professorship is awarded to faculty who have achieved national and international prominence and a distinguished reputation in research and scholarship. In Jochen’s case, the distinction recognizes his extensive and groundbreaking contributions in theoretical and computational chemistry, especially as it relates to heavy-element compounds and molecule-field interactions.   • Diana Aga named SUNY Distinguished Professor

    Prof. Diana Aga has been promoted to the rank of SUNY Distinguished Professor. The SUNY Distinguished Professorship is awarded to faculty who have achieved national and international prominence and a distinguished reputation in research and scholarship. In Diana’s case, the distinction recognizes her extensive and groundbreaking contributions in developing innovative analytical methods that lead to discoveries of “emerging contaminants” and in the understanding of their fate and transport in the environment.
