Joyce Jekayinoluwa

Joyce Jekayinoluwa's research examines how universities in Nigeria and the US respond to sexual and gender-based violence, and whether those responses actually mean anything to the students they are supposed to protect. She is particularly interested in the gap between what institutions say they do and what students experience, and in building a framework grounded in African feminist thought that centers care, trust, and relational accountability over procedural compliance.

She holds an MA in Women’s Studies from the University of Alabama and BA and MA degrees in English Studies from Adeleke University in Nigeria. She is a Graduate Fellow and PhD candidate in Global Gender Studies at the University at Buffalo, where she serves as a peer educator at the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Unit and a Research Associate at the Gender Policy Lab. She is also the co-founder of BBRIDGE, a platform dedicated to Black-centered research on healthy relationships and intimate partner violence prevention and advocacy.

Their dissertation, "Cross-Temporal Encounters: Twentieth-Century Black Queer Aesthetic Practices and Speculative Relationality," examines twentieth-century Black queer cultural production, weaving together close visual and textual analysis and a creative archival practice.
