International applicants should first review all UB requirements for International Student Admission. In addition to all application requirements for the Global Gender and Sexuality Studies PhD or MA programs, international applicants must also submit:

  • The International Student Graduate Financial Form, as well as certified bank statements proving the information submitted on the financial form. (These should be submitted with your GrADMit application.)
  • Official TOEFL scores (taken in the last two years). TOEFL scores should be submitted to the department via ETS.org. (Not the GrAdMIT application.) The institution code is 2925

Minimum Score Requirements:

The minimum TOEFL scores required for each of the forms of the exam are 1) 550 for the paper-based test (TOEFL PBT); 2) 213 for the computer based test (TOEFL CBT); and 3) 79 for the Internet based test (TOEFL IBT).

The University at Buffalo does not currently require minimum cut-off scores for the four individual subsections. Though there is no required minimum section score, most accepted students are expected to achieve the following section scores: Reading: 19/30; Listening: 15/30; Speaking: 19/30; Writing: 19/30.
