Grant Writing Workshops

UB HI organizes grant writing workshops designed to assist faculty and graduate students applying for humanities-based grant and fellowship opportunities outside of UB by learning grant writing strategies from a featured guest speaker. The faculty workshop includes exchanging drafts and ideas with other grant seekers for peer feedback.

Upcoming Workshop

Faculty Workshop

The workshop includes overview information about the College of Arts and Sciences Research and Sponsored Projects service team and a presentation by a UB faculty member with a successful track record of guiding a project through the grant and fellowship application/award process. After the presentations and a brief Q&A session, lunch will be served. The workshop portion of the event follows. Faculty are welcome to attend only the presentation portion of the event and lunch.

Attendees participating in the small group workshop sessions are invited to circulate draft proposals at any stage, from preliminary sketches to finalized applications. Drafts are requested a few days before the event for distribution to break-out session participants in advance of the workshop, to provide time to read and prepare peer advice.

The Humanities Institute endeavors to schedule the workshop at the outset of the semester so that participants will have time afterward to integrate workshop feedback prior to the September and early Fall deadlines for a number of prestigious humanities based grants and fellowships. An excellent source list of fellowships and awards can be found at Faculty Funding Opportunities

When scheduling permits, HI also hosts a Spring semester edition of the workshop.

Graduate Workshop

The Humanities Institute hosts a grant and fellowship writing workshop for graduate students featuring a guest presenter who shares their insights into the writing and application process.

This workshop is designed for graduate student researchers in the arts, humanities, and qualitative social sciences.

Graduate students actively seeking humanities-based grants/fellowships should attend but the workshop is also a resource for those who seek advice on finding opportunities. Additionally, the tools and tips for effectively communicating research to audiences outside of one's discipline can be applied in numerous scenarios.
