The UB Humanities Institute (HI) offers multiple opportunities for UB faculty and graduate students, co-sponsorships of UB-hosted conferences/symposia, and visiting scholar programs.
With a variety of support programs for UB faculty working in the arts and humanities (and beyond), HI is invested in providing our colleagues with both the time and the financial resources needed to advance their research from inception through completion.
Offering support programs for UB graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in the humanities or humanities-adjacent areas of study, HI provides a variety of funding opportunities for scholarship both on- and off-campus.
The Humanities Institute offers matching support for conferences, symposia, and workshops related to the humanities and arts. All UB faculty are eligible to apply; events must be held in Western New York. Awards up to $2,000 are made until funds run out for the fiscal year. Awards are granted on a rolling basis, up to two years in advance of the event.
HI supports two programs offered by the Special Collections Libraries for visiting scholars and graduate students to use the UB Libraries’ outstanding special and distinctive collections, which include the Poetry Collection, University Archives, Rare Books, the Music Library, the Polish Collection, and the History of Medicine Collection.
