Faculty Programs

With a variety of support programs for UB faculty working in the arts and humanities (and beyond), HI is invested in providing our colleagues with both the time and the financial resources needed to advance their research from inception through completion.

  • HI Faculty Fellowships
    12/9/24
This one-year residential fellowship program for tenured and tenure-eligible UB faculty engaged in humanistic research provides the Fellow with a semester of course release (two 3-credit hour courses), which enables the Fellow to focus primarily on a major research project and to participate actively in HI programs.
  • OVPRED/HI Research Funding in the Arts and Humanities
    1/6/25
UB’s Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED) in conjunction with the Humanities Institute offers research funds under a 2-year term. These non-sponsored SUNY Research Foundation funds can be used for a variety of project-related expenses with the goal of generating applications for external funding within three years of the start of the award.
  • OVPRED/HI Publication Support Programs
    12/9/24
Through the support of the UB Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, HI provides three programs for publication support funding at various stages of the publishing process for tenure-stream faculty. From facilitating peer review of book proposals to assisting with subventions, OVPRED and HI are here to support faculty publishing success.
  • National Humanities Center Summer Residency
    1/27/25
This annual, four-week summer residency program hosted by the NHC each June is intended to assist faculty in jump-starting or making substantial progress on a current research project. It permits scholars to experience a concentrated period of supported research and intellectual exchange at the Center located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (near Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh), a setting customized for and highly conducive to humanities research and writing.
  • Propose a New Research Workshop
    1/6/25
HI Research Workshop funding is designed to support interdisciplinary collaborative groups in the humanities, focused on topics or themes that engage multiple humanities-based disciplines.  Research Workshops may include any number of faculty and/or graduate students, focusing on any topic, but they must be interdisciplinary with coordinators based in different departments.
