Faculty Programs

With a variety of support programs for UB faculty working in the arts and humanities (and beyond), HI is invested in providing our colleagues with both the time and the financial resources needed to advance their research from inception through completion.

Open/Rolling Applications

  • OVPRED/HI Publication Support Funding
    7/23/24
The UB Humanities Institute, enabled by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED), offers publication funding to support creative and scholarly books, articles, book chapters, and digital formats by tenure-stream faculty publishing humanities-based work. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with awards (State funds) based on availability of funds and merit.

The following programs are currently closed to new applications for the 2024-25 academic year. Information regarding application requirements is provided for reference. Please check back for updates for 2025-26 application periods which will be announced during the Fall 2024 semester.

  • HI Faculty Fellowships
    7/23/24
This one-year residential fellowship program for tenured and tenure-eligible UB faculty engaged in humanistic research provides the Fellow with a semester of course release (two 3-credit hour courses), which enables the Fellow to focus primarily on a major research project and to participate actively in HI programs.
  • OVPRED/HI Research Funding in the Arts and Humanities
    7/23/24
UB’s Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED) in conjunction with the Humanities Institute offers research funds under a 2-year term. These non-sponsored SUNY Research Foundation funds can be used for a variety of project-related expenses with the goal of generating applications for external funding within three years of the start of the award.
  • Propose a New Research Workshop
    7/23/24
HI Research Workshop funding is designed to support interdisciplinary collaborative groups in the humanities, focused on topics or themes that engage multiple humanities-based disciplines.  Research Workshops may include any number of faculty and/or graduate students, focusing on any topic, but they must be interdisciplinary with coordinators based in different departments.
