    The department celebrated the achievements of the graduating class of 2019 with a ceremony and brunch on May 17, 2019. Alumna Abigail LaPlaca, 2015 summa cum laude Spanish BA graduate, was invited commencement speaker.
  • Sigma Delta Pi Initiation May 10, 2019

    Fifteen undergraduate students and two graduate students were inducted into the National Collegiate Spanish Honor Society Sigma Delta Pi, Beta Nu Chapter, on May 10, 2019. Kayleigh Brandstetter, Michael Bullo, Elif Ersan, Diana Cortés-Evans, Aisling Cantillon, Lisa Marcellus, Cristina Mata, Elizabeth Napolitano, María Loren Pérez Hernández, Alexia Pezzino, Emma Reidell, Samantha Rock, Julia Scott, Alivia Smeltzer-Darling, Claudia Villanueva, Makayla Watson-Wales, and Spencer Woods were welcomed into the chapter with a short ceremony followed by a reception for friends and family. We congratulate them on their accomplishment! 
  • 8th Annual RLL GSA conference is a resounding success

    The 8th Annual Romance Languages and Literatures Graduate Student Association Conference was held April 26-27, 2019, on UB's North Campus. Invited keynote speakers were Dr. John Lipski, Edwin Earl Sparks Professor of Spanish and Linguistics at Pennsylvania State University; and Dr. William Egginton, Decker Professor in the Humanities and Director of the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute at Johns Hopkins University .

  • Paige Melin wins Fulbright Award to Senegal

    Paige Melin, 2013 UB BA grad with a double major in English and French Language and Literature, has won a Fulbright English Teaching Award in Senegal for 2019-2020.
  • Elizabeth Scarlett elected to MLA forum executive committee

    The Modern Language Association has announced the election of Professor Elizabeth Scarlett to a five-year term on the executive committee of the forum Transdisciplinary Connections--Religion and Literature. We wish Professor Scarlett congratulations and best wishes on her new leadership role!
