Next Steps for New Students

Congratulations on accepting your admission into the University at Buffalo's MS in Criminology program! We are excited to have you! Please review your next steps below to help you get ready for the new semester. 

  1. Visit the Graduate School Website to navigate the process of getting started at UB. You'll need to get an ID, set up your email, and access UB Learns, among other things. 
  2. Complete the MS Criminology New Student Survey. This short survey will walk you through key program requirements and help us netter understand each student's goals and academic plans.
  3. Select your classes
    • MS Students can begin enrolling for courses in April for fall classes and in November for spring classes. Registration information will be shared by the Office of the Registrar and the Department of Sociology and Criminology. You will register for classes through the HUB Student Center in MyUB.     • The MS in Criminology requires 30 credit hours of graduate-level coursework:
      • 15 credit hours of core courses (CRX504, CRX606, CRX587, and 6 credits of CRX601)
      • 15 credit hours of electives in sociology and criminology
      • Detailed information about the program requirements and course information can be found in the MS Handbook
    • Academic Advisor: Dr. Yunmei (Iris) Lu (yunmeilu@buffalo.edu) will be your academic advisor. Feel free to contact her with any questions about course selection. 
  4. Plan to attend the Department Orientation. New students will receive detailed information about the department orientation about two months before the semester begins.
