"In the End of Times" started out as a silly experiment for a playwrighting class revolving around the concept of a group of gay friends meeting a Karen as the world was ending while poking fun at the notion that gay people are going to hell.
However, as the state of the world has continued to decline in recent months, along with things happening in my personal life, some of the themes in the play started to hit too close to home. So, I rewrote it. Recently, we have seen a lot of people being divided everywhere and hatred rising. Including in queer spaces such as with the LGB no T movement. And I wanted to explore that, not only with each character representing different facets of the community and me projecting insecurities, experiences or thoughts I've had in each of them, but also showcasing them as a flawed human being. Or a cult and how people will attach to any belief during times of stress.
I also wanted to convey that what matters most should not be who we are, but being kind to each other even as things are falling apart (yes, even "Karens"). We need to stand together, and we never know what is going on in someone's life.
This is the first play I've written and directed so I don't expect it to be perfect! But I hope I will continue to grow in my craft as I go and that people are still able to have fun and enjoy it. I also want to thank the cast and crew for helping me make this happen. It trult couldn't have been done without any of you!
