Auditions and Interviews
Auditions are required for the Dance BA/BFA, the Music Theatre BFA, and the Acting BFA. A Portfolio Submission and Interview is required for the Theatre BFA, Design/Technology Concentration.

Undergraduate Program Auditions and Interviews Requirements and Registration
Applicants to the University at Buffalo interested in auditioning must:
- Upload Required Documents and Submit Online Audition/Interview Registration Form (linked below)
- Pay the $30 Audition Fee*
- Apply to the University at Buffalo through the Office of Admissions
*Prospective students who receive a fee waiver for the university application process are exempt. (Note: there is no fee for Design and Technology Interviews.)
Application Materials such as Resumes, Career Statements, Headshots, References, and Video Audition Links (see individual program links for required materials) should be submitted with the audition registration form. Audition fees should be paid at time of registration. Materials will not be reviewed until the audition fee is received. Each video should be submitted as a separate link, youtube or vimeo accepted. Acceptable video formats are YouTube and Vimeo. Should you have any issues uploading and submitting your materials, please contact: td-theatredance@buffalo.edu.
- Acceptance to any of our programs also requires acceptance to the University at Buffalo and is a separate process.
- Transfer students must complete the same process and adhere to the same deadlines as incoming students.
- Please note that we do not attend the Unified Auditions.
- There are no refunds of audition or admissions application fees.
- Applicants denied admission based on the performance audition cannot apply again until the following academic year.
An audition is required for our BFA Acting degree program. Interested students are encouraged to audition prior to matriculation at UB. Current UB students who audition for the theatre major should contact the department Academic Manager to discuss their degree completion timetable.
An audition is required for our BA Dance degree program. Interested students are encouraged to audition prior to matriculation at UB. Current UB students who audition for the dance major should contact the department Academic Manager to discuss their degree completion timetable.
An audition is required for our BFA Music Theatre degree program. Interested students are encouraged to audition prior to matriculation at UB. Current UB students who audition for the music theatre major should contact the department Academic Manager to discuss their degree completion timetable.
In-person and virtual interviews are available on a rolling basis for the BFA Theatre Design/Technology degree program. Facility tours are available by appointment. To request an appointment contact Professor Catherine Norgren at: norgren@buffalo.edu.
Graduate Program Auditions
Graduate Programs Requirements and Registration
Auditions are required for admission to the MFA Dance Program, in addition to filling out the online application.
Applicants to the University at Buffalo interested in auditioning must:
- Submit Online MFA Dance Audition Registration Form
- Apply to the University at Buffalo through online application
MFA Dance
- Performance of the applicant’s original choreography (3 minutes)
- Technique class in Modern, Ballet, and Improvisation (expertise in all forms is not required)
- In person writing sample
- Faculty interview
