It has been a pleasure to witness and support the development of this year’s MFA Dance Thesis Cohort - Charity John and Rebekah Bono. Each artist cites lineage as a point of departure for art-making and pedagogy. Through theoretical and embodied research, risk, rigor and inquiry they have furthered the reach of their practices. In this concert, you will witness their complexity in storytelling and meaning making, and nuance in form, composition and structure.
The thesis works were choreographed during a year-long process. I am proud of the dancers that have courageously taken this journey. Both Rebakah and Charity have extended our dancers beyond our undergraduate curricular offerings with their process oriented approach to dance making and/or anchoring movement traditions. This concert is also a celebration of their growth.
Charity and Rebekah have been dedicated and determined in their practice. I believe we will continue to see the fruits of their efforts, as they extend their skills into the fields of art creation and education. Our department’s learners will continue to benefit from the residue of their excellence and instruction. I am grateful for the opportunity to be champion and provocateur in their process, and honored to present the MFA Thesis Concert of Spring 2026.
