Fall 2025 students in the course ART333: 3D Modeling and Digital Fabrication, taught by Chris Siano, collaborated on a table saw replica project using 3D modeling software and production processes.
The February 26th reception was a bustling event, filled with visitors engaging in technical conversation, appreciating the students' fabrication work, and enjoying some refreshments!
This was the first time that Chris had the students in this class do a joint project, where their assignments could be combined into a collective whole. The assembled Skilsaw replica shines a light on the impressiveness and practicality of the processes that these students learned. The headshots that Cassandra Cook took of the makers, exhibited alongside the source object and replica, give a window into the labor and collaborative nature of achieving the finished model. The students now have these modeling and fabrication skills in their tool belt, and they can use them for a variety of applications, including their individual art practices. On why making a replica item is an important assignment, Chris notes: “It gives them a very measurable goal of success or failure. You know if they were told just make a 3D model of anything, there would be no metric for success.”
