James Berry and Omer Gokcumen were selected to receive awards at UB's Fall 2019 Celebration of Faculty and Staff Academic Excellence. The university-wide event was held on October 31, 2019, in Slee Hall. A large crowd was in attendance.
Dr. Berry received the Award for Teaching Innovation in recognition of his demonstrable effect on enhancing student learning-outcomes. Established to honor exceptional educational pedagogy, UB’s Award for Teaching Innovation was created in 2003 to recognize faculty who have contributed significantly to engaging students with new methods and approaches to teaching.
Dr. Gokumen received the Distinguished Postdoc Mentor Award which recognizes his role as mentee, advocate, advisor and role model during the period of direct training and most often, in the following years. Established by the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars in 2009, the Distinguished Postdoc Mentor Award is awarded on an annual basis to a faculty member who excel in the mentoring of postdoctoral scholars.
