The University at Buffalo’s Department of Chemistry mourns the passing of Janet (Osteryoung) Jones. Dr. Jones was a faculty member in our department from 1979 until 1992. From 1994 until her retirement in 2001, Dr. Jones served as Director of the National Science Foundation’s Division of Chemistry, a role in which she greatly influenced the direction of chemistry research in the US.

Prof. Diana Aga has been selected to receive the 2021 Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water Distinguished Researcher Grant! Diana will be honored at the 17th Annual Workshop on Emerging High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) and LC-MS/MS Applications in Analysis and Food Safety to be held at Environment and Climate Change Canada in Ottawa, ON, in October 2021.

Luis Colon has been selected to receive the 2022 Dal Nogare Award in Chromatography! The award recognizes contributions to theory and applications of chromatographic science. Luis will receive the award in March at PittConn in Atlanta. (https://pittcon.org/technical-program/award-recipients/)

Javid Rzayev has been selected to receive a UB Exceptional Scholar: Sustained Achievement Award. This award recognizes research performed in a recent segment of a faculty member’s career, which has garnered public and/or professional accolades beyond the norm. UBNow article

Paras Prasad has received the 2021 IEEE Photonics Society William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award. The award recognizes an exceptional scientific contribution which has had significant impact in the field of lasers and electro-optics. Paras was selected for “pioneering contributions in multiphoton processes in molecular materials and developing technologies that advance biophotonics for multiphoton imaging and therapy.” Paras will receive his award at the upcoming 2021 IEEE Photonics Conference.
