Why choose a Medicinal Chemistry minor?

  • Compliments Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology majors
  • Strengthen preparation for pre-med or pre-dental pathways
  • Deepen understanding of how chemistry applies to biological systems
  • Build laboratory and analytical skills used in medicinal research

What you'll learn

  • Core concepts across organic, inorganic, analytical, physical and biological chemistry
  • How chemical structure and reactivity influence drug action
  • Design and analyze experiments related to chemical and biological questions
  • How medicinal chemistry supports the discovery and study of new compounds

Requirements at a glance

To complete the minor, students take courses that include:

  • Foundational coursework in chemistry and organic chemistry
  • Upper-level coursework at the 300/400 level in classes such as biochemistry and medicinal chemistry

For full requirements and declaration details, refer to the undergraduate course catalog. Current UB students wanting to apply should complete the Undergraduate Major/Minor Change Request Form.
