Don McGuire came to UB in 1992 from the University of Southern California, where he was assistant professor of classics from 1984 to 1992. He was director of the University of Southern California Summer Program in Greece (1986-88) and has led summer academic and scholarly tours through Turkey, Greece and Italy. He has served as secretary of the Western New York chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America since 1993. A recipient of the Gold Key National Honors Society Distinguished Teaching Award, he directs classics graduate students who hold teaching assistantships in the world civilization program.
Prof. McGuire is also working on the impact of classics on contemporary popular culture, and is co-editor of Imperial Projections: Ancient Rome in Modern Popular Culture (Johns Hopkins University Press).
