Melanie Green, professor and chair of the Department of Communication, holds the 20th Century Club Professorship through 2023. The support provided by the 20th Century Club funding will allow Green to continue her research activity while also serving in the key administrative chair role. Green’s research examines the power of narrative to change beliefs, including the effects of fictional stories on real-world attitudes. She has examined narrative persuasion in a variety of contexts, from health communication to social issues. In addition to editing two books on these topics (Narrative Impact and Persuasion: Psychological Insights and Perspectives, Second Edition), she has published numerous articles in leading psychology, communication, and interdisciplinary journals.
