Christian DiCanio, professor in the Department of Linguistics, has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship for two years which will fund research and writing of comprehensive reference grammar of Itunyoso Triqui [ISO 639-3 trq], an endangered Southern Mexican language.
This project will support the creation of a comprehensive reference grammar of Itunyoso Triqui (ISO [trq]), an endangered American Indian language in the Otomanguean family spoken in Southern Mexico the United States. It will represent the first reference grammar written for any Triqui language and vastly enhance our understanding of these unique languages. All recordings and materials will be archived in the publicly-accessible Archive of Indigenous Languages of Latin America. Funding will support consultation with Triqui speakers, travel to Mexico, and archiving.
