On Saturday, March 1, UB Choro brought the vibrant sounds of Brazilian music to Duende at Silo City, performing to a standing-room-only audience as part of a live show headlined by Buffalo-based choro duo Stephen Guerra and Titus Stevens. The performance was a high-energy, community-driven event that highlighted the growing impact of UB Choro in Buffalo’s professional music scene.
Founded by Stephen Guerra, assistant professor, in 2023 with just two students and a faculty collaborator, UB Choro has rapidly expanded. The ensemble now includes twelve members, ranging from undergraduate to graduate students, with occasional appearances by faculty guests. The group regularly brings together students and faculty and it offers UB students to perform publicly alongside professionals. The UB Choro performance is an example of meaningful town-gown collaboration, strengthening the cultural ties between UB and the wider Buffalo arts community.
