**PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION FOR THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY IS SEPARATE FROM APPLYING FOR GRADUATION (DEGREE).**
This ceremony is for College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate students from the above departments and programs with degree conferral dates of August 2020, February 2021, and June 2021. Students must contact their advisers to ensure all degree requirements have been met.
If you have applied for a Summer 2021 graduation term, you are a candidate for August 2021 degree conferral, which is part of the next academic year. However, if you would prefer to participate in this year's ceremony instead, you may. By registering for this year's ceremony, your name will be announced.
If you have applied for a graduation term later than Summer 2021, please join us for the Spring 2022 ceremony.
Graduates with majors in each ceremony (example: Art and English) may either attend either the morning or the afternoon ceremony or both ceremonies. If you are attending both, please note that you must register for each ceremony separately.
The University Bookstore, located on the North Campus, will handle all academic apparel orders. If you plan to purchase a cap and gown set, you are encouraged to do so by April 2. After April 2, the shipping price increases and orders are not guaranteed to arrive in time for your ceremony. Details and the link to order are available at UB's commencement website.
The Office of the Registrar will mail a printed diploma, free of charge, to your permanent address approximately six to eight weeks after the conferral date. Students are responsible for making address changes; these should be made by the term conferral date to ensure that you receive your diploma.
Certified Electronic Diploma
Students with degree conferral dates of June 2020 and later also have the option to purchase a certified electronic diploma (CeDiploma) for $15.95. An offer will be sent to your UB email, from email@example.com, approximately 3-6 weeks after your degree conferral date.
Recognition of Latin Honors
Students earning baccalaureate degrees (including those awarded as part of combined degrees) are eligible to receive Latin honors based on their UB cumulative grade point average (GPA) on the following scale:
Average (based on 4.0=A)
To receive the Latin honors designation in the printed commencement programs, and to be eligible to wear the honorific gold cord (cum laude, magna and summa) during these ceremonies, candidates for the June degree conferral date must:
This recognition is only intended for students who will have their degrees conferred in June, or have had their degrees conferred in the previous February or August.
The gold cords will be available for purchase ($12) at the University Bookstore on North Campus beginning March 3, 2021. Students must present UB ID at time of purchase. Students will also have the option to contact the University Bookstore (716-636-6290, ext. 12) and make their purchase over the phone. In this case, add $7.50 for home shipping.
Recognition of Other Honors
Candidates for graduation are also encouraged to wear on their robes any insignia, emblems or pins signifying membership in honorary societies or academic organizations, or special honors received for academic or extracurricular activities.
A decision on whether guests will be permitted to attend the ceremonies will be made by the university at a later date, in consultation with the county and state departments of health. All ceremonies will be live streamed.
