Accepting Graduate Applications for Fall 2023

The Economics department is accepting Masters and PhD applications for Fall 2023. We encourage all interested students to apply. PhD applicants should complete their application by January 3 to receive full consideration for UB scholarships. PhD applications submitted after February 1 may not be considered for funding.

PhD Stipends for Fall 2023

The incoming PhD stipend will be at least $20,000 for our departmental funded students.

Graduate Admissions Undergraduate Admissions

Step 1: Apply to the University at Buffalo

Incoming freshman or undergraduate transfer applicants who are interested in pursuing economics study must first apply and be accepted to the University at Buffalo. All relevant information, including admissions criteria, the online application, dates and deadlines, and standardized test score requirements, can be found by visiting UB Undergraduate Admissions.

Step 2: Apply to the Department of Economics

Major/Joint Major/Minor Combined BA/MA Combined BA/MS

Any student considering a Major, Joint Major or Minor in Economics should speak with the undergraduate adviser to obtain up-to-date information about requirements.

Transfer Policy

Transfer credits may be given towards the following courses:

  • ECO 181 Introduction to Macroeconomics
  • ECO 182 Introduction to Microeconomics
  • ECO 380 Economic Statistics and Data Analysis
  • ECO 405 Microeconomic Theory
  • ECO 407 Macroeconomic Theory
  • ECO 480 Econometrics I
  • “any-level” economics electives.

Students who wish to obtain transfer credits for courses taken at another university or college must apply through UB’s TAURUS system.  You must provide an informative course description or syllabus for each course and make an articulation request at Capen 1.
