Diving into environmental research and internships is key to finding your speciality (your JAM!)  in this vast field. We highly recommend that every student in EVS grabs the chance to take at least one internship during their studies. It’s the perfect way to apply what you’ve learned in class to real-world challenges and discover what sparks your passion in the environment and sustainability world!

Environmental Studies and Sciences are extremely broad topics, dealing with more than just forests and birds. We actively look for ways to make the world we live in better for all by mitigating pollution, minimizing impacts, and maximizing productivity while working to safeguard natural systems and ecosystem services.

Students in our program intern and often find permanent positions with NGOs, government and companies like the Nature Conservancy, The US Fish and Wildlife Service, and local environmental consulting groups.

Environment and Sustainability

The biggest challenge of the 21st century is understanding our Earth—how we've impacted the natural world and how we can fix those effects. Tackling these issues requires knowledge that spans natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities.

The Department of Environment and Sustainability (EVS) at UB offers a unique, interdisciplinary education for both undergraduate and graduate students. We promote collaborative learning and research within our department, across the university, and with the greater Buffalo community. By combining programs and research from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, we prepare our graduates to be well-rounded citizens, researchers, managers, and guardians of the Earth's environments and resources.
