The annual spring migration of birds is one of the most fascinating and mysterious natural events in North America. While many notice birds on their journey north, few humans have joined the migration themselves but that is exactly what Bruce Beehler did. An ornithologist and conservationist with the Smithsonian, Dr. Beehler embarked on a quest to follow this wave of bird migration from the Gulf Coast to northern Ontario in 2015. In this talk, he will be sharing his experiences from some of America’s most remote places and encounters with some of the rarest birds. More than scientific excursion, Dr. Beehler’s journey helps to provide new insights about this unique phenomenon’s impact on culture by highlighting those who seek to protect birds in the face of rapid climate change.
