Graduate Student Achievements

Our graduate students are out there doing amazing things! A quick roundup of good news from the Fall 2017 semester:

Alexander Yarbrough successfully defended his dissertation, "Reform and Its Limits: The Bélisaire Affair and the Politics of Religious Toleration in Enlightenment France." Alex's doctoral degree was jointly awarded by the UB History Department and the Sorbonne.

PhD candidate Shanleigh Corrallo has recently received funding for her dissertation research from the Mark Diamond Research Fund. In addition, this spring, Shanleigh will join the Houghton College History faculty to teach two courses, one aimed at refugee students in an associate's degree program, and a second in conjunction with Peaceprints of Western New York. This second course is designed for men and women who have been through the criminal justice system.

PhD candidate Elisabeth Davis has published a book review in the online journal, Appositions.

PhD candidate Jonathan Lower, who is headed out on research soon, has won a bevy of research fellowships. He has received funding from the Duke University Libraries, and has won a John Hope Franklin Research Center Travel Grant as well as a University of Kentucky John Jacob Niles Center for American Music Research Grant.

MA student Jonathan Makeley, who serves as the town historian of Angelica, New York, has written a short article in the Alleghany County Historical Society Recorder (2017, vol. 8, issue 4) entitled "The Town of Angelica and the People on Our Money."
